Slideshow


Lighting is the most overlooked aspect of interior design. We tend to worry about it only after we’ve settled on, say, furnishings and paint color. And yet it has a disproportionate effect on our rooms. There are signs, however, that lighting design is coming into its own. The International Contemporary Furniture Fair, which ended Tuesday in New York, seemed to have more lighting than in previous years, and lighting of a startling diversity. Shakti Kundalini Modern Floor Lamp


Shakti is probably one of the most famous lighting fixtures created by Kundalini.
It is a floor lamp with two lights forreading and ambient that can be dimmed. The light diffuser is a laser cut extruded Plexiglass tube, fixed into a satin finished or chrome plated base. Thanks to the new technology of co-extrusion Shakti's light is always white, even in the coloured version.

Cascade Modern Chandelier by Michelle Brand


As the popular movement now “To think Green” is progressing, the designers again and again create something interesting using the used plastic bottles. British eco-designer Michelle Brand is making his lighting fixtures out of the bottom parts of clear bottles.
The American showroom Vivre recently displayed one of his creations “Cascade” made of 572 bottle bottoms.
The parts are connected with an invisible string. The esthetic effect is reached due to a long band of plastic flowers coming from the ceiling to the floor.

Floor Lamp LaLa by Kundalini Lighting


The lighting fixtures by Italian Manufacturer Kundalini get more and more complicated forms. Floor Lamp LaLa is designed by Helen Konturis to be a part of colorful interior. It looks as if it’s asking you to an Italian Disco party.

Modern Lighting "ABYSS" by Kundalini Lighting


One of the main projects of Italian lighting manufacturer Kundalini, the collection Abyss, created for it by German Design Studio “Osko+Deichmann”, just got an additional ceiling lighting of the new form. This unique modular structure, very flexible and strong at the same time, allows to easily change the form of the lighting fixture and to orient it in the space. The designers meant to create an atmosphere of underwater world. That’s why the collection got the name “Abyss” that means deep water zones of the ocean.

Sike S Chandelier by La Murrina


Karim Rashid, a designer with a name, created a chandelier Sike S for Italian company La Murrina. This lighting fixture that reminds sometimes a jelly fish, and sometimes a Chinese lantern, is decorated by hundreds of Murano glass beads. Really a brilliant choice for a modern interior.

Fibre Evolution by Foscarini




Italian designer Marc Sadler created a new series of lighting fixtures for the famous Italian company Foscarini. The floor gigantic installations resemble DNAs and other genetically engineered structures. The world premier of this series Fibre Evolution was held in showroom INPUT INTERIOR during the Stockholm Design Week. Previous works by Sadler were also presented at the show.

Blossom Pendant by BELUX

At Stockholm Furniture Fair 2008 Company Belux presented the new collection of lighting fixtures by Hella Jongerius “Blossom”.
The base of this fixture is the lamp of the 30th of the last century. The designer colored the metal bell into different colors. Bright colors and the delicate switch give this model a feeling of first spring flowers.

Ingo Maurer's Atomium Lamps


a perception of being in an extraterrestrial vehicle.for the atomium building in brussels, ingo maurer and his team created several new lighting objects and the interior lighting.the 'cult' building has been closed for renovation since 2003.next week, on 18 february, it will reopen for the public.six of the nine spheres are accessible to visitors. with a diameter of 18 m each globe is divided into up to four levels and spaces for a variety of purposes.

Marcus Tremonto and His New Lighting Forms




Recently the New York Gallery Phillips de Pury & Company has organized an exhibition of American lighting designer Marcus Tremonto.

Marcus started his professional life as a scientist, specialist in analytical mathematics. That’s probably why when he joined the group of concept designers in the Art Institute of Chicago, he still was the dreamer of future civilizations.
His personal exhibition presented one of such civilizations. It still has traditional lighting fixtures like pendants and floor lamps, but sometimes it’s only the reflection of forms in the neon light.

Yet Shelf by Foscarini


In 2003 Studio Kairos, that works with famous lighting manufacturer Foscarini created shelf-lighting fixture Yet.
It’s made of polyethylene. Its sizes are 35 cm x 62 cm 27 cm. Geometrically it has a shape of a star with one longer ray.
This shape allows to use this item in different combinations on the wall. It’s possible to use two-three shelves together.
The shelf comes in four colors: white, grey, terracotta, yellow.

Lu Murano Collection by Luigi Fornasier

Venetian company Fornasier Luigi presented its new "Lu-Murano" masterpiece at the annual trade show Maison&Objet this January, 2008 in Paris. It resembles a unique flower with the drops of water glittering under the sun. In reality these are tiny bulbs. The flower itself is made of Murano glass.

Lunar-Resonant Streetlights by Civil Twilight


The group of young architects “Civil Twilight” based in San Francisco, California has invented the “Lunar-Resonant” Streetlights, investing their talents into the environmental projects all over the world. Lunar-resonant streetlights sense and respond to ambient moonlight, dimming and brightening each month as the Moon cycles through its phases.
Utilizing available moonlight, rather than overwhelming it, saves energy and mitigates light pollution, while facilitating the urban experience of one most fundamental and beautiful cycles of nature.The company is the winner of Design Competition “Next Generation 2007” held by Metropolis magazine.
